The sunshine has finally decided to grace us with her presence and even though you are thinking, what harm can she do, she can do a lot of damage.
It's that time of year where you NEED to be wearing sunscreen.
Do you want to be that person people talk about and say "Wow she has great skin"?
Why wouldn't you.
Well, to be that person, it all comes down to PROTECTING YOUR SKIN!!!!
The sun can cause a tremendous amount of damage to the skin, otherwise known as "SUN DAMAGE". These damages result in "Brown Spots" (Pigmentation spots), "Wrinkles" (Age Lines), and an overall "Dull" looking skin.
This is Why it is Sooooo Important to Protect Your Skin....
I know, I know, exactly what you are saying, "But I look so good, glowing and healthy, with a tan".
How to Get that Healthy Glow Without Exposure to the Sun
You can still have a tan on your face by either using a shade or two darker foundation. All you have to do is blend the foundation down your neck and over your ears (you want this to look as natural as possible, of course). You can also get a Self tanning cream/lotion/mousse or go to a local tanning salon or spa that offers a "spray tan" option.
Remember, the key to healthy skin is not to kill it with excessive sun exposure.
But I Need Vitamin D
We all need Vitamin D. It's important to our physical and emotional well being. But that's no excuse for cooking in the sun.
I know you love how your legs look with a tan. They look slimmer and more defined, right??? Well, as much as tanning is a big NO, NO, you can get your beautiful glow in the sun...
WAIT.... you must be confused. Like your ex boyfriend, I am sending mixed messages.
You can spend time in the sun, guilt free, and get the sun kissed look you wait all winter for.
There is a BUT though.....
Make sure you use the appropriate sunscreen to protect your skin from burning. AND, no matter what you do, to keep your face looking beautiful and endlessly youthful for as long as you can, always wear a hat and sunscreen to shield your beautiful face from the sun.
But What About Summer Kissed Face?
Like I said earlier... you can always colour match your face with a foundation that will match the tan on your body.
Lets face it, we all like a little tan, just don't sacrifice your beauty, and health, for it.
If You've Already Spent Years in the Sun without Protection
For those of you who have spent YEARS in the sun (rolling my eyes at you) there are some things you can do that are not aggressive to help reverse some of that sun damage...
Retinols - a vitamin A derivative and antioxidant that strengthens skin and increases cell turnover, enhancing sin texture and tone. Retinol minimizes the appearance of fine lines , wrinkles and hyperpigmentation (dark spots) at the same time reducing pore size appearance and blemishes. We use and recommend AlumierMD as their retinols are microencapsulated which allows for a slow release into the skin overnight, minimizing irritation and maximizing effectiveness.
Topical Antioxidants - repairs skin from the inside out like our Vitamin Rich Smoother from AlumierMD which is high in Vitamin C and also contains Vitamin E. These antioxidants protect and neutralize free radicals from the sun and pollution. Fragrance-Free, Sulfate-Free, paraben-free, mineral oil free and dye-free.
Chemical peels - will give you a quick change to your skin. Peels remove the top layers of your skin helping to even out the texture, the colour by targeting the brown spots (pigmentation), also reduces wrinkles.
Don't Be Like Me
I remember back in my twenties when women used to say to me "COVER YOUR FACE" "USE SUNSCREEN" "THE SUN IS NOT GOOD FOR YOU" blah blah blah, I would roll my eyes thinking "ya ya whatever". well, boy where they right.
By the time I hit 30 - I SAW THE DIFFERENCE. All those years of tanning with BABY OIL, or putting COCA COLA on my body and face, and falling asleep in the sun. I would burn my face to a CRISP... literally! All that ignorance caught up to me pretty quickly as I started noticing the fine lines and sun spots way too soon for my liking.
That's when I got into the Beauty /Esthetics industry and learned more and more about the damage I did.
Luckily, over the last 9 years of taking care of my skin, keeping my face out of the sun, using a physical sunscreen/foundation on my face every day, and using proper Professional SPA brand skin care serums and creams, I was able to bring my skin to a state where people now tell me "Wow you have great skin!".
